Opposite the village of Simplon lies what is probably the oldest larch forest in Switzerland. The tree rings that have formed in the larches of the Hittuwald forest bear witness to natural phenomena and historical events over the last 700 to 850 years.

When will the forests be colorful? 🍂

It's getting cooler, the first leaves and needles are changing color... Delicate harbingers are quietly announcing that the mountains will soon be clad in their colorful autumn dress.

As the days get shorter and temperatures fall in the fall, the trees gradually prepare for winter. The coloration of the needles and leaves is influenced by various factors such as temperature, length of day, sun, frost and other factors.

The splendor of the golden autumn usually begins towards the end of September and often reaches its peak in October. However, there can be strong local differences in the coloration - while the trees in Rothwald, for example, are already glowing golden yellow, the larches in Hittuwald may still be tentatively discolored.

It is almost impossible to make a prediction. Let's give nature time to unfold its colors and let us be surprised where the forests will be the first to turn golden yellow.
